POETRY: Where exactly is the North?

Where exactly is The North?
Just how South does it go?
Coz ministers responsible
Admit that they don’t know
Is it where they dug for coal,
Wove cotton or built ships?
Or is it where they always ask
For gravy on their chips?
Is it where they don T-shirts
While through the snow they crunch?
Or is it where dinner’s called tea
Coz dinner is their lunch?
Is it where their rugby’s played
With thirteen on each side?
Or is it where there’s ageing trains
On which commuters ride?
The North’s not easy to define
The best one I’ve read yet
“It starts where people call you duck
Ends where they call you pet.”
