Nestling in Pendle’s magnificent countryside, located on the Lancashire-Yorkshire border above the village of Laneshawbridge, The Alma Inn was originally built in 1725 as a rural coaching inn.
Following a very careful and sympathetic restoration, the inn, with stone floors, original beams and real fires, welcomes all for dwelling, drinking and dining.
In a relaxed setting with friendly service, the Alma offers seriously good local ingredients and fare, cooked well and accompanied by a noteworthy selection of real ales and good wines. The inn has been awarded four stars and has nine luxury en-suite bedrooms with the latest facilities, and a bedroom located on the ground floor for those who struggle with the stairs.
The inn has extensive function and wedding facilities, and is licensed to conduct civil marriage ceremonies. There is also ample parking provided at the rear, and there’s even with space for patrons to arrive by helicopter.
The inn is happy to accommodate well-behaved pets and children of all ages almost everywhere. In fact, such a lot of dogs are now regular customers that the odd cat may prove problematic!
Dining at the inn is available in three areas, with the full menu available in each. The kitchen is open every day from noon until around 9pm.
The Garden Room is open daily for breakfast to guests and non-residents alike from 7.30am to 9.30am during the week, and 8am to 10am at the weekend.
Out of hours, a selection of snacks, sandwiches, teas, coffees and pastries is always available. With the bar open all day, from 11am (noon on Sundays) until late, you are sure of a warm welcome whenever you choose to visit.
With the inn’s increasing popularity, tables can be booked in advance but even at busy times, should be able to get a table if you don’t mind a short wait with a drink in hand at the bar.
The main bar and entrance to the inn, with welcoming fire and stone-flagged floor, is always open and is a perfect place to sit back and relax, watching the comings and goings, simply with a drink in hand or a plate of something delicious and a glass of wine.
The lounge, with its panelled wall, oak floor, real fires and softer, more comfortable furnishings, is an ideal spot for a quiet chat or for a more intimate occasion. This room is also available for private functions or parties, and is often used for wedding ceremonies, as the inn is licensed to conduct civil-marriage ceremonies. It is also an ideal location for evening receptions.
The Garden Room is the Alma’s latest addition, and is the largest function room. With its oak-beamed ceiling and vast glazing, this air-conditioned dining room has splendid views of Boulsworth and the magnificent vista the inn benefits from in its rural hilltop location.
With a seated dining capacity of 80, or a buffet /party capacity of between 100 and 120, its own bar and separate entrance to the inn, this is a splendid room to host a wedding reception, private party or special event. It is also often available for casual dining at lunchtime, evenings and weekends.
Over the years, the Alma team have been privileged to hold many great weddings and parties. They are so committed to hosting your special event, the inn has its own wedding and function co-ordinator whose sole role is to take care of every detail to ensure your expectations are fulfilled.
The Alma is arranged to facilitate an event of almost any size. Two large separate rooms are interconnected by large glazed folding doors, which allow you to use both facilities depending on your needs.
The inn is perfectly located for those who enjoy country pursuits. Walkers can simply pull on their boots and head out of the door. There are a number of walks to suit all abilities, from full-scale expeditions across the moors, to a relaxed meander along the Ferndean Way through the valley and the Ball Grove Bird and Nature Reserve, or a slightly longer trek to Wycoller Country Park.
