One north-west business, called Spartan Survival, is aiming to address that by providing bushcraft and survival courses which brings families closer together. One rule applies: no mobile phones, no tablets, no devices… just the great outdoors and the chance to reconnect. And since forming in the Summer of 2021 the courses have grown in popularity among family members.

The company, which runs bushcraft and survival courses at sites in Cholmondeley, Cheshire and an elite course at a secret location in Scotland have seen attendances on the rise from 10 a month to 60 a month. Ian Huntington, Spartan’s co-founder and its Chief Instructor, said, “those attending courses quickly find they can develop skills they can transfer back into their family life.

“At Spartan Survival our goal is to provide families, schools, and businesses with bushcraft, survival, and wilderness skills to help them enjoy the great outdoors.”

“As soon as people arrive at our course we make clear they need to press pause on all of the stresses and strains of life and focus on just four things: shelter, fire, water and food. Many are a bit wary of handing in their mobile phones. And some look nervous as they head off to spend time on their own in the wilderness. By the end of the course they’ve gone through a total reset in their minds.
