The Mayor of Pendle continues to work at the heart of the community during his term of office.

During the last few months, Councillor Mohammad Ammer has had a packed and varied calendar.

Along with his wife, The Mayoress, Mrs Ghulam Kibria, they visited Samaritans of Pendle, Burnley, Craven and Rossendale, which is one of their chosen charities.

They had a tour of the building to see where calls are received and talked to volunteers, including the volunteer who runs The Samaritans second-hand bookstall at Colne Market.

The Mayor said: “It was really enlightening to look round the branch, speak to volunteers and learn more about the valuable work they do.”

The community-based volunteer group is dedicated to keeping Pendle tidy through litter picking and raising environmental awareness.

Other mayoral engagements have included joining The Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire at a presentation of the King’s Award for Enterprise to Detectronic Limited in Brierfield; attending a Pendleside Community Wellbeing Event at St. Mary’s Church in Newchurch and a Student Youth Council meeting at The Zone in Nelson.

Councillor Ammer supported a Children In Need event at Asda in Colne and was a special guest at Domiciliary Home Care Services Ltd’s Carer of the Year Award presentation.

December saw the Mayor joining thousands of residents at both Nelson and Colne’s Christmas Lights Switch-On events.

He also attended Elisha House’s Christmas Party, saying afterwards: “As well as the gym, I was also impressed by the facility’s other great initiatives to support well-being, including the community café and regular walking and cycling trips.”

More recently, Councillor Ammer presented a Certificate of Thanks to Peter and Andrea Smith who founded Pick Up For Pendle 10 years ago. The community-based volunteer group is dedicated to keeping Pendle tidy through litter picking and raising environmental awareness.

Councillor Ammer said: “It is an honour to see the wonderful work that is being done across the borough. At the events I have attended as Mayor I have felt such pride in Pendle.”
