Family travel in Indonesia: The best Uluwatu restaurants for you
by Northern Life
If you’re planning on bringing your family for a tropical getaway in Bali, OnBali experts have curated an incredible guide for you, including family-friendly restaurants. Beyond the famous reef breaks that attract surfers all over the world, Uluwatu is also home to some incredible restaurants. What surprises me is that many of these eateries are perfect for families!
From a family-owned Italian to a stunning cliffside restaurant overlooking the Indian Ocean, I’ll show you why Uluwatu should be on your destination list, even if you’re travelling with your little ones. Are you ready to discover the best restaurants in Uluwatu with OnBali.com? Let’s dive into it!
- Rolling Fork
Rolling Fork is every parent’s dream restaurant, and let me tell you why. Specializing in Italian food, the name Rolling Fork implies you need to roll your fork to eat the classic Spaghetti Alla Carbonara or Fettuccine Salsiccia & Cicoria with Italian sausages, mushrooms, and spinach. Besides the food, I love how the place pays homage to Indonesia’s history with its Joglo-styled house and colonial interiors.
But the kid’s playground at Rolling Fork makes the restaurant even more attractive to parents. I’ve seen parents enjoying their slice of 4 Formaggi pizza and sipping the sangria or white wine while the kids are playing in the ball pits and slides or sitting quietly with colouring pencils. Your kids can also enjoy the kid portion of Margherita pizza or Pomodoro pasta from the kid’s menu!
- Ohana
Mariia from OnBali says, “Ohana is such a hidden-gem family restaurant in Uluwatu, and if you want your kids to roam free, look nowhere else!” I absolutely agree with her opinion. With the big garden in the back, kids can run around or jump on the trampoline. Your kid’s safety shouldn’t be compromised, and luckily, the kid’s area is always under supervision at Ohana.
While the garden area is big enough for kids to play, let’s not forget about the food. I tried An Indonesian Heritage, and it was the softest, melt-in-your-mouth, and most aromatic beef rendang I’ve ever tasted. Ordering panna cotta topped with passion fruit was the best dessert you could ever have at Ohana. If your little ones need a boost of energy after running around the garden, they will love The Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich.
- Mana Uluwatu
If you want a Uluwatu restaurant with a view, it’s hard to beat Mana Uluwatu. The sprawling Indian Ocean looks magnificent from the restaurant’s terrace, especially during sunset. With two different dining options, you can go for casual by the poolside or a more formal one on the second floor.
While Chicken Yakitori and Tuna Nachos make great snacks, my Charcoal-Grilled Black Angus sirloin steak was a delight! The Kid’s menu is no slouch, either! From Cheese Quesadillas and Cheeseburgers to buttermilk chicken katsu, I can see myself ordering them on my next visit because they look super tasty!
- BB52
I don’t know about you, but a burger is one of my comfort foods. And when I need a smoky and towering burger, BB52 always gets my vote. Cheap restaurants in Uluwatu are hard to come by, but BB52 knows how to make every dollar you spend worth every bite! Using Australian beef known to make the juiciest patty, whether you order Double Smash Burger or the O-G, get ready to have the best burger in Bali!
With a few tables and chairs, the place screams comfort.
While they don’t have a specialiSed Kid’s menu, I bet they will love Hash Potato Nuggets, Waffle Fries, or Mac and cheese Balls. But I always have my burger order with additional Shoestring Fries because I can’t get enough of how crunchy they make the fries. With a few tables and chairs, the place screams comfort, just like the way they make the burgers.
- Mason
I don’t think anyone would disagree with including Mason as one of the top restaurants in Uluwatu. Sharing the same DNA as the one in Canggu, Mason brings the Mediterranean-inspired menu focusing on wood-fired dishes to the laid-back Uluwatu. This technique ensures the authentic flavours of the ingredients shine.
No place in Bali has the perfect 48-hour slow-cooked short rib with Chimichurri, Sherry Vinegar Glaze, and sea salt like Mason. My taste buds love the right juiciness and balanced flavour. And to combine it with the Jamaica cocktails and Wood-Fired Bread Pudding for dessert while sitting in the courtyard, dinner in Mason is perfection in my book.
- Ulu Garden
If you want to try authentic Indonesian or Balinese food in Uluwatu, I can’t recommend Ulu Garden enough. From the moment you step into the restaurant, with the building built around the giant tree, the homey and cosy atmosphere is off the chart.
While enjoying your Coconut Tuna Bowl for dinner, you will be accompanied by art performances from local artists.
While I don’t consider Ulu Garden a cheap restaurant in Uluwatu, this is one of the few places where I recommend you try as many as you can from the menu. The classic Ulu Nasi Goreng and Lemongrass Barramundi showcase the richness of Indonesian spices that will hook you from the first bite. At Ulu Garden, you don’t only enjoy the food. Still, every evening, while enjoying your Coconut Tuna Bowl for dinner, you will be accompanied by art performances from local artists, be it a traditional dance or live music.
Conclusions
As the list shows you, Uluwatu is more than just an area in Bali with stunning beaches. It also has many great restaurants, even when you tag the little ones along! These top six restaurants in Uluwatu know how to deliver mouthwatering food with a killer vibe and, as a bonus, make your kids feel welcome!
While it’s nice to dine at a restaurant in Uluwatu with a stunning view of the Indian Ocean, the food should be the main reason you go to these restaurants.
