This exhibition will explore the Irwell and its valley, from its source in Rossendale to its final destination at Salford Quays and the Manchester Ship Canal. Paintings, drawings, photographs and film will reveal its post-industrial landscapes and the wildlife which thrives there, often discreet and hidden from view. Free. After the devastation caused by World War 2, the British Government was keen for more workers to help rebuild the country and revive the economy. In 1948 they passed a law called the British Nationality Act that said all citizens of countries ruled by Britain could live and work in the UK. Many of the earliest arrivals were from the Caribbean. This exhibition seeks to share these stories, Open Wed - Fri 1am - 4pm and Sat & Sun 11am - 4pm.
