The Big Bronte Book Swap

The Old School Room Church Street, Haworth

This year we're celebrating International Women's Day with The Big Brontë Book Swap!  The Brontë sisters wrote in a time where there was an incredible amount of prejudice against women. Their novels and poetry were originally published under the pseudonyms of Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell, as a way to disguise their sex. These gender fluid names were to ensure they could be taken seriously without sexist barriers.  We want to celebrate fairness in the book world, and think about how far we've come since the Brontës had to conceal their sex to get published.
