Must see and do in Lancaster

1. Take a tour of Lancaster Castle

See never-before-seen parts of Lancaster Castle (which is still owned by the Queen) on a brand new tour that includes the story of the Lancashire Witches and lets you see the magnificent Shire Hall, home to the country’s largest display of coat of arms shields.

2. Explore Judges’ Lodgings Museum

Visit Lancaster’s oldest town house, originally the home of Thomas Covell, Keeper of Lancaster Castle and notorious witch hunter. See the renowned collection of Gillow furniture and the enchanting Museum of Childhood, which has toys from the 18th century to the present. Other museums include the Maritime, City and Cottage Museums.

3. Watch the UK’s largest Walkabout Theatre

The story of Oliver Twist will be brought to life in Williamson Park from 3 July to 15 August. Pack a picnic and enjoy a great evening of entertainment with stunning views across Morecambe Bay at sunset.

4. Enjoy a pint of real ale and live music

Lancaster is awash with proper pubs serving cask ales from local breweries, stop for a pint of Hen Harrier at the Borough or head to Ye Olde John O’Gaunt for open mic night.

5. Ashton Memorial

One of Lancaster’s most famous landmarks, but did you know it was built for love? Find out more and experience one of the most stunning panoramic views around when you visit this Victorian folly in Williamson Park.

There’s a range of places to stay in the city from the new rooms at the Borough and Penny Street Bridge, both in the heart of the city, to the award winning Lancaster House Hotel on the outskirts.
