Burnley pub wins 'Best Pub to Watch Sport in' award
The Royal Dyche in Burnley took the ‘Best Pub To Watch Sport 2023’ cup, awarded by the Great British Pub Awards. Just a goal-kick away from Turf Moor, the pub is now officially the place to watch sport.
In the lead-up to the awards ceremony at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse, a judge visited the Royal Dyche and found Justine Bedford in her scruffs and clutching a hammer in the beer garden. She treated them to a tour of the unique pub with its collection of Claret memorabilia and a unique atmosphere. At the ceremony, the judge admitted to Justine and her wife Steph “that there’s no other pub like the Dyche.” “It’s not just about the sport,” she explains. “It’s about what we do before and after with live music and the occasional freebie, including food to fuel up fans. We’re a community pub where everyone can come and support their favourite sport.”
Perfect for footy fans, there is even a football pitch at the side of the pub. “We have a bring your own ball policy on match days, so the kids can play while the adults relax,” Justine beams.
“We were up against some incredible venues, and I genuinely did not think we would win it. I was completely blown away. We’re a little pub in Burnley. We didn’t expect to win at all.”
So, instead of cheering for your favourite team from the confines of your living room, make your way to the Royal Dyche and experience firsthand why it was crowned the best sports pub of 2023!
