Sam Newbould Quintet – UK Tour Sept 2023

by Northern Life

Yorkshire-born jazz artist Sam Newbould returns back to his roots for an exciting new tour in some of the north's biggest venues!

From humble beginnings in the quiet North Yorkshire countryside, saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Sam Newbould has gone on to make quite a splash on the Dutch jazz scene. Sam has lived in Amsterdam for almost 10 years now, having first moved to the Netherlands to study at the Coservatorium van Amsterdam, though is very excited to return back to the UK for an upcoming tour at the end of September.

Sam’s quintet (with Bernard van Rossum on tenor sax, Xavi Torres on piano, Jort Terwijn on bass, Guy Salamon on drums, and Sam on alto sax and compositions) have enjoyed tremendous success since first entering the music scene. In 2019, they won the prestigious Keep an Eye Records Award and a €10,000 prize to produce a debut album. His two albums, Blencathra and Bogus Notus, have been widely enjoyed and extensively praised – a success Sam is hoping to replicate with his third, currently unnamed, album releasing in May 2024.

Perhaps his most exciting upcoming event, however, comes in the form of a 7-day UK tour at the end of September 2023, which includes a return back up north for concerts in Manchester (Sept 18th), Leeds (Sept 20th), and Hull (Sept 21st) that will allow Sam to perform for friends, family, and people he grew up with for the first time in over 15 years.

Sam’s passion for music really shines through in everything he says. His excitement to return back home to perform in some of the UK’s biggest venues is infectious, and fans and new listeners alike can look forward to seven nights of truly magical indie jazz.
