Yorkshire And Lancashire Stars To Put Rivalry Aside For England’s Ashes Cause

Yorkshire and Lancashire have a tremendous rivalry when it comes to county cricket but that will have to be put to the side for the moment as England prepare to face Australia in this summer’s Ashes.

When it comes to England’s experienced stars, Lancashire bowler James Anderson, along with Yorkshire pair of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root make up an important trio in the Test side. All familiar with each others’ strengths, all three will be hoping to come together to deliver England a first Ashes win since 2015.

Anderson Looking To Go Out On A High

In what looks set to be Anderson’s final Ashes series, the fast bowler will be determined to claim the urn back after a lengthy spell in Australian hands. England are 5/4 in the cricket betting to win the Ashes this summer, as they look to repeat their heroics from 2015 when they won the series 3-2 on home soil. Anderson has played a big role in the Ashes over recent years on his way to becoming his country’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker.

Finishing his Ashes journey on a high will be the Lancastrian’s primary goal this summer as he looks to spearhead the English seam attack against the Baggy Greens. With England losing star spinner Jack Leach to a back injury in the build-up to the series, there’s even more onus on Anderson and his fellow seamers to get the wickets needed to take down their rivals over the five Test matches this summer.

Yorkshire Stars Ready For Action

Looking at the experienced players in the England squad from across the Pennines, the Yorkshire pair of Root and Bairstow can have big roles to play with bat in hand. No longer with the captaincy hanging over him, Sheffield’s Root has the freedom to simply focus on getting runs on the board for his country. Something he’s made a career of.

As for Bairstow, the wicket-keeper batter has come through a nightmare spell when he suffered a serious leg injury ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. Bairstow watched from back in the UK as England went on to win the T20 title for the second time but the Yorkshireman has since returned to action following his leg break and ankle dislocation. Looking to get back to the form he was in before the freak incident last September, the 33-year-old will be hoping to join Root in the runs against the Aussies.

The experienced northern trio of Anderson, Root and Bairstow know what it takes to win an Ashes series and all three will be looking to put that knowledge to good use when hostilities between England and Australia resume on the field this summer.
