Duran Duran Bring Memorable SOAT Season To A Close

by Northern Life

Pop legends Duran Duran brought down the curtain on a memorable Scarborough Open Air Theatre season with a hit-packed show in front of another sell-out audience on Friday night.

After 2020’s schedule was wiped out through Covid restrictions, the 2021 season got off to a belated start when Stereophonics blew away the cobwebs at the end of July. Since then, the Yorkshire coast venue has hosted fantastic nights with Kaiser Chiefs, Culture Club, Olly Murs and Snow Patrol to name but a few.

Opening with their latest single Invisible, frontman Simon Le Bon then briefly addressed the crowd saying: “Lovely to be in Scarborough. Friday night in Yorkshire by the seaside!” before launching into their 80s number one The Reflex and a string of their greatest hits.

Simon Le Bon paused for a moment to reflect on the last 18 months saying: “We missed being in front of you guys. We really need to get back to something like an Ordinary World,” a poignant introduction to their 90s anthem of the same name.

After closing their main set with Girls On Film/Acceptable In The 80s, Simon Le Bon (vocals), John Taylor (bass), Roger Taylor (drums) and Nick Rhodes (keyboards) returned for an encore which began with another iconic number 1, Save A Prayer, and closed the 2021 season with Rio.
