Nile Rodgers & CHIC And Keane Shine In Scarborough
by Northern Life
With the Scarborough Open Air Theatre 2021 season now in full flow, fans enjoyed two fantastic shows this weekend with sparkling performances from Nile Rodgers & CHIC and Keane.
Friday night’s headliners Nile Rodgers and CHIC delivered an electrifying set of timeless disco and pop classics. This was his first concert since Covid, Rodgers told the crowd, as he and the band entertained the fans with crowd-pleasing favourites including Everybody Dance, Upside Down, Lost In Music, Le Freak, Good Times, We Are Family and Greatest Dancer.
The following evening Keane lit up Scarborough Open Air Theatre despite the torrential rain, which hit the venue just before the show. The rain persisted throughout the show but did not dampen the crowd’s spirits as frontman Tom Chaplin (vocals), Tim Rice-Oxley (keyboards, backing vocals), Richard Hughes (drums, backing vocals) and Jesse Quinn (bass, backing vocals) made their first visit to the Yorkshire venue.
Their set included their classic tracks Nothing In My Way, Spiralling, Everybody’s Changing, Is It Any Wonder, This Is The Last Time, Bedshaped and Somewhere Only We Know. Keane returned for an encore of My Shadow, Crystal Ball and Sovereign Light Café.
Supporting Keane were Sheffield indie band The Sherlocks. Kiaran Crook (vocals, guitar), Brandon Crook (drums), Trent Jackson (bass) and Alex Procter (lead guitar) previewed material from their forthcoming new album World I Understand which is due for release on 19 November.
