Spring 2021

by Sharon Mawdesley

The days pass by so slowly
As we shake off winter’s vice
We check the figures every day
They start to fall, we hope, we pray,
A little good news would be nice!

Has it really been a year
Since all this nightmare started?
It’s Groundhog Day stuck on repeat,
We sit at home, we drink, we eat,
Try not to get downhearted.

But signs of spring are coming now,
Small green shoots show life anew,
It’s getting warmer, days are longer,
Vaccines make our hopes grow stronger,
Optimism creeping through.

From our winter hibernation
Like hedgehogs, bats and mice,
We poke our noses through the door
And hope that life resumes once more –
Oh, wouldn’t that be nice
