Unusual Day
by Northern Life
By Constance McLaren, Bradford
It really was an unusual day
For a funeral was on the way
In church all in our Sunday best
For Uncle John had gone to rest
As we came out it was no joke
For we were overcome with smoke
Outside someone’s car did burn
Which gave us all a nasty turn
And as we stood there all in shock
The road outside was choc o block
The police cars with their men in blue
Along with a fire engine or two
The guests all stood there all agog
Thought they were in a London fog
I think it’s really true to say
It was a most unusual day
I heard a giggle in the sky that day
A laugh in the billowing smoke
Could it have been our Uncle John
For he always likes a joke.
