Things to consider:
- Size Don’t make the mistake of buying a cheap slow cooker that doesn’t have the capacity to feed you and your family.
- Is it hob safe? If you’re cooking with meat, you will probably want a slow cooker that has an inner ceramic pot that can be used on the hob for browning.
- What features do you need? Many slow cookers, particularly the more expensive ones, come with umpteen special settings. If you don’t need the extras, save your cash and get something cheaper with fewer things to go wrong.

This is the Rolls Royce of slow cookers. The Fast Slow Cooker sports huge 6 litre capacity which should be plenty to feed a large family. The clear LCD screen keeps you posted on what your slow cooker is doing. Its eight programs will be enough to suit most cooking types including searing, steaming, slow cooking and reducing and when it’s done it will automatically switch to keep warm.
4 VonShef Electric Slow Cooker
If you’re feeding a small army this is the slow cooker for you with its 6.5 litre capacity. It’s a well made machine and is very easy to use producing great results on all three temperature settings. It is dishwasher safe but be aware that it is massive and you’ll not get much else in. Considering the price it is a pleasant suprise to have a digital display with a count down feature making timing your banquet a piece of cake! The main down side is also its main attraction, the sheer size of it means it either takes up a lot of space when it’s not in use.
